Join us for an educational workshop led by the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV). Attendees will learn the basics of domestic violence and learn about housing provider resources to help support survivors.

The program will incorporate two trainings:
Navigating Housing & Safety: Understanding Domestic Violence Through In Her Shoes
As a housing professional, you are often on the front lines when a resident experiences domestic violence or a safety crisis. This interactive workshop uses In Her Shoes, an experiential simulation of the experience of real survivors. By stepping into the shoes of a survivor through real-life scenarios, participants will navigate the complex choices and systemic barriers related to safety, financial stability, and housing retention. The session combines hands-on simulation with guided debriefing to equip staff with practical, trauma-informed practices for supporting residents while maintaining property standards.

Supporting Survivors: Housing Protections and Practical Guidance for Rental Housing Providers
Safe, stable housing is critical for survivors of domestic violence. Housing providers play an important role in helping survivors maintain housing stability while fulfilling their responsibilities under federal and Texas law. Designed specifically for Houston-area rental housing professionals, we will examine how domestic violence can affect a survivor’s housing, the barriers survivors may encounter, and the legal rights and protections available to them. Presenters will explain key provisions of the federal Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), relevant Texas laws, and the duties these protections may establish for housing providers. Attendees will discuss practical approaches to responding to survivor-related housing situations, communicating with survivors, protecting confidentiality, and collaborating with victim service providers and other community partners.
